Manufacturing Engineering Shop Technician

Position Summary

We are seeking a dependable and mechanically inclined Manufacturing Engineering Shop Technician to provide hands-on support to our Manufacturing Engineering and Operations teams. This contract position will assist with a variety of shop, tooling, fabrication, equipment, and production-support activities.

The ideal candidate enjoys hands-on work, is comfortable using a variety of tools and equipment, and can adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This position will work closely with engineers, manufacturing personnel, and shop team members to complete projects that support production efficiency, equipment organization, tooling, and day-to-day operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Assemble, modify, repair, and maintain carts, racks, fixtures, jigs, workstations, and other manufacturing or production-support tooling.
• Assist with the fabrication and modification of shop equipment and production-support items.
• Create and modify foam inserts, protective packaging, tool-control solutions, and storage systems for parts, tools, and equipment.
• Perform basic woodworking and carpentry projects as required.
• Measure, cut, drill, fasten, assemble, and modify materials using appropriate tools and equipment.
• Safely operate common hand tools, power tools, measuring devices, and shop equipment.
• Read and interpret basic drawings, sketches, measurements, layouts, and written work instructions.
• Assist Manufacturing Engineering personnel with prototype tooling, fixtures, process improvements, and shop projects.
• Support production and operations teams with equipment, material, tooling, and workspace requirements.
• Move, organize, stage, and transport materials, tools, equipment, and shop supplies as needed.
• Maintain shop tools, equipment, materials, and work areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
• Perform basic inspections and measurements to verify completed work meets project requirements.
• Identify damaged or unsafe tools and equipment and report issues to the appropriate personnel.
• Follow established safety procedures, work instructions, quality requirements, and company policies.
• Work collaboratively with engineers, technicians, production personnel, and other departments.
• Assist with special projects and other hands-on manufacturing or facility-support activities as assigned.
• Adjust to changing work assignments and priorities based on production and operational requirements.

Qualifications

Required

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience.
• Mechanically inclined with demonstrated hands-on skills.
• Experience using common hand tools and power tools safely.
• Ability to take accurate measurements and perform basic shop-related calculations.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Ability to read and work from basic drawings, sketches, layouts, or work instructions.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
• Dependable, punctual, and able to work with limited supervision once assignments are understood.
• Ability to work effectively with engineers, technicians, manufacturing personnel, and other team members.
• Willingness to perform a variety of assignments and adapt to changing operational priorities.

Preferred

Previous hands-on experience in one or more of the following areas is preferred:

• Manufacturing or production
• Manufacturing engineering support
• Maintenance or industrial maintenance
• Construction
• Carpentry or woodworking
• Mechanical assembly
• Fabrication
• Tooling, fixtures, or jig assembly
• Warehouse or material-handling operations
• Aerospace, aviation, automotive, or industrial manufacturing

Experience does not need to come from a traditional manufacturing environment. Candidates with strong mechanical aptitude and relevant hands-on experience in construction, maintenance, woodworking, fabrication, or similar trades are encouraged to apply.

Physical Requirements

The position requires working in an active manufacturing and shop environment. The employee may be required to:

• Stand and walk for extended periods.
• Bend, kneel, crouch, climb, reach, and work in various physical positions.
• Frequently use hands and arms to operate tools and equipment.
• Lift, carry, push, and pull materials, tools, and equipment.
• Lift up to 50 pounds independently and heavier items with appropriate assistance or material-handling equipment.
• Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Work around manufacturing equipment, machinery, noise, dust, and other typical shop conditions.

Work Environment

This is an onsite, hands-on position supporting Manufacturing Engineering and Operations. Work will primarily be performed in manufacturing, production, engineering-shop, and related operational areas.

This is not a desk-based engineering position. The successful candidate should be comfortable performing physical, hands-on work and moving between different projects based on the needs of the manufacturing operation.
