Job Description

Position Overview

SkyBridge Aviation is seeking an experienced Mechanical / Mission Systems Integration Engineer to support a confidential defense and mission-systems client in Atlanta. The initial effort supports a mobile command-center capability integrated into an armored ground vehicle using aerospace and mission-system components. The engineer will support the program from conceptual design and prototyping through production build and installation, with a strong focus on communications/mission-equipment rack development and ruggedized platform integration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and integrate modular communications and mission-equipment racks, mission bays, slide-out assemblies, and associated mechanical structures.
  • Support conceptual design, prototyping, production build, installation, and integration-lab activities.
  • Design and support equipment/LRU mounting, packaging, load paths, installation constraints, and blind-mate interfaces.
  • Evaluate material selection and mechanical design decisions for ruggedized communications and electronic equipment installations.
  • Evaluate space, thermal loads, cooling, airflow, and other packaging constraints associated with installed equipment.
  • Support harness routing, cable penetrations, equipment interfaces, and antenna mounting/integration from a mechanical perspective.
  • Incorporate applicable EMP/HEMP survivability considerations into protected modular rack/enclosure designs.
  • Consider mechanical and material decisions that may affect EMI/EMC and co-site performance.
  • Coordinate closely with Electrical/RF and other engineering disciplines to resolve cross-functional integration issues.
  • Support design reviews and transition designs from concept/prototype into physical build and installation.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of relevant mechanical design/engineering experience.
  • Active Secret security clearance.
  • Ability/eligibility to upgrade to Top Secret.
  • Strong experience integrating electronic or mission-system equipment into ruggedized or complex platforms.
  • Demonstrated experience developing communications racks, mission-equipment racks, ruggedized electronic enclosures, modular equipment bays, or closely related systems.
  • Experience with equipment packaging, LRU installation, mounting, mechanical integration, and physical platform constraints.
  • Experience taking designs from concept/prototype through build and integration.
  • Ability to work primarily onsite in the Atlanta integration environment.

Preferred / Highly Desired Experience

  • Ground, armored, or tactical vehicle mission-system integration experience.
  • Communications-rack development for vehicle, vessel, aerospace, or other defense platforms.
  • Blind-mate connector/interface and slide-out or modular-bay experience.
  • EMP/HEMP-protected equipment/enclosure experience and familiarity with MIL-STD-188-125 concepts.
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD-810 and MIL-STD-461 considerations.
  • Thermal management and cooling of densely packaged electronics.
  • SolidWorks and/or AutoCAD experience; equivalent mechanical CAD tools may also be relevant.
  • Experience with modular/open architectures or chassis ecosystems such as CMOSS/SOSA, VITA/OpenVPX, where applicable.
  • Experience supporting a new integration lab, prototype environment, or engineering process.
